More Than 20 Years of Partnership: EngView and the University of Ljubljana Supporting the Next Generation of Packaging Professionals

For more than 20 years, EngView Systems has partnered with the University of Ljubljana to support young professionals in packaging design and production. Supporting education and helping students develop practical, industry-relevant skills is a shared value at the heart of this long-standing partnership.

The Faculty of Natural Sciences and Engineering at the University of Ljubljana covers a wide range of science, engineering, and design fields. Within the faculty, the Department of Textiles, Graphic Arts and Design combines creative and technical knowledge, with a strong focus on innovation, visual communication, and applied design.

EngView software is used in several study programmes, including the Bachelor’s and Master’s programmes in Graphic and Interactive Communications and the Bachelor’s programme in Graphic and Media Technology.

Each year, around 60 students use EngView during their courses, and at least 20 diploma and master’s thesis students use the software for their final projects.

The software is integrated into courses such as Packaging Materials and Technology, Trends in Packaging Development, and Design of Sustainable Packaging.

We spoke with Dr. Urška Vrabič-Brodnjak, Associate Professor at the University of Ljubljana, about how EngView supports students in learning packaging construction, design, and production.

Bridging Theory and Practice

“Students gain confidence by seeing their designs become physical products. This experience helps them connect theoretical knowledge with practical application and better prepares them for future careers in the packaging industry.”

Q&A with Dr. Urška Vrabič-Brodnjak

How does EngView support students in learning packaging design and production?

EngView helps students learn through practice. They start with sketches and ideas, then use the software to develop structural packaging designs, create layouts, test solutions, and prepare files for production.

This helps them understand the full process — from concept to physical product.

What benefits have you seen for students?

Since using EngView in our courses, students have become more engaged and better understand packaging design and production.

The software gives them practical experience that is very close to real industry work. They learn how packaging is designed and optimized for production while also improving their technical skills, creativity, and problem-solving abilities.

How do students respond to using the software?

Students respond very positively. At first, many think EngView is only a design tool. But once they start using it, they quickly understand its importance for packaging construction and technical development.

They enjoy seeing their ideas turn into real packaging structures and physical prototypes.

Why is it important for students to create physical products?

When students see their designs become real products, they feel more confident and motivated. It helps them connect theory with practice and better understand what is needed in real packaging production.

This experience also prepares them for future work in the packaging industry.

What do you value most about the collaboration with EngView?

The collaboration with EngView has become more than just a business partnership. It is open, friendly, and very enjoyable.

Over the years, we have built strong personal connections with the EngView team. We always look forward to meeting again at exhibitions, seminars, and industry events, where we can exchange ideas and continue our cooperation.

Would you recommend EngView to other educational institutions?

Yes, definitely. The software is user-friendly, and students usually learn it quite quickly.

It is a great tool for understanding packaging construction, design, and production. The collaboration with EngView is also very positive and supportive, creating real value for teaching and learning.
