Integration between EngView and Hybrid Software's PACKZ

About the integration

This topic takes you through the steps to follow to set up the integration between EngView and Hybrid Software's PACKZ software for editing labels and packaging. It takes you step by step through the EngView side of the integration, specifically:

  1. How to prepare CAD jobs.
  2. How to line them up for PACKZ to process.

The topic does not cover the PACKZ side of the integration.

I. Setting up the integration

Before you begin, you need to set up the PACKZ/EngView integration. This takes places in EngView.

  1. On the Tools menu, click Options, and then click the Integration tab.
Enable Integration
  1. Click the PACKZ Integration check box. You now need to log in to start using the integration.
  2. In User, click the Login button.

The Log In With EngView dialog box appears.

Log-In
  1. Type the email address that is your PACKZ account, and your password.

NOTE: If you do not have an account, write to support@engview.com to request one.

When you have logged in, your account name and the integration's URL appear in User and URL, respectively.

  1. Click OK.

A message appears prompting you to restart EngView for the integration to take effect.

  1. Restart EngView.

In the upper left corner of the tools panel, you can now see the integration's button. Note that it will not be available for use until you have started working on a project and saved it.

II. Using the integration

  1. Start an EngView project. You can start a project from scratch, a parametric template, an imported file or an external object.
  2. (Optional) Create the layout that you need for the job.

You can create multiple layouts. If your project has multiple 1up drawings, you can create layouts from each drawing you plan to work with in PACKZ.

  1. (Optional) Create a 3D model of the design. The model will later appear as a preview for the job in the jobs queue.
  2. When you are done preparing the layouts and the 3D models, save the project.

NOTE: When you have saved the project, the Upload to PACKZ integration button becomes avaialble Integration BTN. This means that now you can send the design to the integration's jobs queue.

  1. When you have completed your work on the 1up drawings, layouts and 3D models, click the Upload to PACKZ integration button to send the file to the jobs queue.

The Submit to PACKZ Job Queue dialog box appears. Check the table below to learn what each field means.

Submit Dialog
View Jobs Opens the jobs queue, where you see the full of list of the jobs uploaded so far. Learn more about how to work with the queue.
Project Name The name of the current project
Sent On (Read-only) The date and time when the job was submitted to the queue
Customer The project's end customer. You can select a customer from the drop-down list, or use the Plus button to create a customer.
Email (ID) The email ID for the customer. This is the ID that the customer will use to log on to the integration.
Contact The contact person representing the customer
  1. In the dialog box, type the required project data, and then click OK.

If the project was uploaded to the job queue at an earlier moment, a dialog box appears.

File Save

NOTE: The options listed here reflect the fact that you can create multiple jobs from the same design. When a job is uploaded, EngView keeps a record of the underlying design. Then, each time a new job is uploaded that is created from the same design, EngView asks you whether to update the existing job or create a new job under a new name.

  1. Consider your case as described in the dialog box. To upload the project as an individual job, click No.

The dialog box disappears. The job is now in the queue and you can use PACKZ to open it.

  2. Click the integration button.

In the dialog box, you can:

Because multiple jobs can be created from the same design, the (*) symbol in front of a job's name indicates that this is the most recent job created and uploaded from a particular design.
