Creating selection parameters

Selection parameters can be created only when a parameter template is attached to a currently open drawing. In the template, you create selection parameters by using the selection types. The only selection parameter that you can create when no parameter template is attached to a drawing, is a Boolean parameter, that is, one that can take only the values Yes (1) and No (0).

To create selection parameters

1. Ensure that the current parameter template contains selection types; if it has none, you will not have predefined selection types to select from, and no selection parameters can be created. To check if the current template has any selection types, in the tabular area, right-click, and then click View Current Template on the context menu.
2. In the tabular area, click the Parameters tab.
3. Click Select .
4. Right-click, and then select New parameter on the context menu.

The Parameter Properties dialog box appears.

Name Defines the name of the parameter. NOTE: A parameter name cannot begin with a number.

Selection Sets the parameter as an selection one.

The browsing button opens a dialog box in which you select values for selection parameters.

Description Notes about the parameter. When you attach the parameter to a drawing, this description will appear as tooltip when in the tabular area you point to the name of the parameter.

Scope Sets the parameter as local (valid only for the current drawing) or global (valid for the entire project).

Group A list with all currently available parameter groups in the project. Select the groups that you want the parameter to be (re)assigned to.

5. In Name, enter a new name for the parameter.

6. To define the parameter as a selection one, click the Selection option.

The fields Expression, Min and Max are unavailable.

7. To select a new value for the parameter, click the browse button on the right of the Expression field.

The Select Value dialog box appears.

Selection types A list of the selection types in the parameter template.

Values A list of the values that the currently selected selection type may have.

8. In Selection types, select a selection type, and then in Values a value for it. The value will be the expression of the parameter. Learn how to create and edit selection types.
9. Click OK.
10. (Optional) Back in the Parameter Properties dialog box, in Description, type a text describing the parameter.
11. To assign the parameter to one or several parameter groups, select the groups you want in the Group area. By default, each new parameter is assigned to the Main group. Learn more about how to assign parameters to groups.
12. To complete the procedure, click OK.

In the tabular area, the parameter now appears at the bottom of the list of parameters. Because EngView computes parameters in top-down order, you must move the newly created parameter to where it is needed for the correct computation of parameters.

12. Right-click the parameter row, and then click Move Up. Repeat this action as many times as needed to move the parameter to where you need it.

TIP: You can create a parameter at an exact place in the list of parameter. To do so, select the parameter that you want to come after the new parameter, right-click, and then click New Parameter Above.

NOTE: You can create parameters while drawing or modifying objects, or while setting or modifying dimensions: In the contextual edit bar, enter a name for a parameter, and then press ENTER; then, in the Create Parameter dialog box that appears, define the new parameter.
