The Packaging Industry in Chile: Growth and Innovation with EngView and Synergy SB

As Chile's packaging industry experiences steady growth and transitions toward sustainability, EngView Systems and its Chilean partner Synergy SB are playing crucial roles in shaping the future of packaging design and production in the region.

A Market in Transformation

According to a recent report by GlobalData, the Chilean packaging market is expected to grow from 22.3 billion units in 2023 to 24.1 billion units by 2028, posting a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 1.6%.  Paperboard case materials (553,000 tons) constituted the product with the largest volume of consumption, comprising approximately 75%. Moreover, paperboard case materials exceeded the figures recorded for the second-largest type, folding boxboard (127,000 tons) and wrapping paper, packaging paper and paperboard ranked third in terms of total consumption – reports IndexBox.

Summon Dutta stated that in Chile the corrugated boxes market is also experiencing steady growth, driven primarily by the rise in e-commerce, retail, and manufacturing sectors that demand durable, lightweight, and customizable packaging solutions. The food and beverage industry, in particular, is a major user due to the need for safe transport of perishable goods. Market growth is also fueled by the need for improved supply chain logistics and an increased focus on product branding. However, the industry faces challenges such as balancing cost-efficiency with environmental sustainability, maintaining box integrity during transport, and competition from alternative packaging materials. Chile currently consumes nearly 990,000 tons of plastic annually, yet only 8.5% is recycled, according to the Chilean Plastics Pact.

Sustainable Momentum Across Latin America

The push toward eco-conscious packaging isn't limited to Chile. Across Latin America, the sustainable packaging market is increasing. According to IMARC Group, the sector reached USD 16.2 billion in 2024 and is expected to grow at a CAGR of 8.08%, hitting USD 34.4 billion by 2033. Consumers and governments alike are demanding biodegradable, recyclable, and minimalist packaging. To keep pace with this growing demand, businesses across the region are turning to advanced technologies that support sustainable design and efficient production. One such solution is the EngView Packaging Suite.

Driving Innovation: EngView Packaging Suite

EngView Packaging Suite is a CAD/CAM solution for structural design and production of boxes and POP/POS displays. It provides a wide range of tools that speed up and automate the day-to-day jobs of structural designers, graphic designers, diemakers, and salespeople involved in the creation, communication, and production of packaging.

The EngView packaging software is integrated with Adobe® Illustrator®. It helps professionals visualize the 3D model of the packaging with the product inside and apply graphics to the structure. With the new Step and Repeat functionality that multiplies the one-up design over the layout directly in Illustrator®, designers can generate production files with high-resolution images.
